Reflecting Worldly and Islamic Values: The Path of True Authenticity

We often hear the phrase, “Monkey see, monkey do,” but the science and spirituality behind it run deep. The psychology illustrated in the first graphic shows a powerful psychological feedback loop: we mirror behaviours. If we audit our inner circle and find it lacks substance, and we continue to “mimic” those behaviours, we become those individuals, eroding our standards. To “level up,” we must deliberately distance ourselves from bad influences and actively seek role models who inspire us to become better. This is the secular path to growth.

But what about true, spiritual authenticity? The second graphic takes this understanding and grounds it in the concept of “Authentic Guidance.” When we talk about “Being Authentic,” it’s often taken to mean simply following your personal desires. But authentic spiritual guidance means rooting your life and actions in established, divine foundations: the Quran, Tawhid (the oneness of God), and the Sunnah (the model life of the Prophet). Deviation from these core principles creates its own “Bid’ah,” or spiritual deviation—a form of bad company that isolates us from wisdom.

True growth, therefore, requires a dual approach. You must create “Healthy Boundaries” for your environment, but also maintain “Healthy Foundations” for your soul. By mirroring people with good values and grounding yourself in authentic spiritual practice, you don’t just mimic good behaviour—you raise your “Spiritual Maturity & Divine Favour.”

The ultimate goal, as both guides highlight, is to have actions that mirror our beliefs. If our environment is toxic and our beliefs are shallow, our actions will crumble like the cracked earth in the graphics. To level up, we must build a solid foundation: verify our practices, adhere to our path with intention, and seek the true path of guidance.

Surround yourself with authenticity, and you will become it.
